What’s New!

Twinmotion 2024.1 is here!

Twinmotion 2024.1 is now available for download, bringing new features and enhancements for designers across industries—including architecture, film & television, automotive and product design, and beyond.

Key new features in Twinmotion 2024.1

Animation sequencing tools

With Twinmotion 2023.2, we’ve significantly improved the process of working with animated files. Introducing the new Sequence media type and Action Cam camera, you can now create detailed videos that synchronize seamlessly with your animations.
These tools allow you to precisely add keyframes for camera positions, incorporate pauses in camera movement, adjust speed, and retime keyframes automatically for consistent camera motion. You can also visualize the animated camera's path in the Media Preview Window.

Render layers

In Twinmotion 2024.1, we’ve expanded on traditional offline rendering capabilities by introducing Layer IDs for assets. This feature allows you to export your scene into up to five distinct render layers in addition to the beauty pass.
These layers can be exported with transparency (in PNG or EXR formats) or as simple black and white masks, facilitating easy compositing and post-process enhancements.

Smart foliage from imported assets

Previously, Twinmotion’s library featured a variety of trees and shrubs with smart effects like wind, seasonal color changes, leaf loss, and snow accumulation. Now, you can import your own assets and apply the new Foliage master material, which grants you access to these effects along with realistic translucency.
The material offers gradient options for color changes and leaf loss throughout the year and allows for separate materials on foliage, blossoms, and fruit for precise control over their appearance and timing.

Higher-fidelity fabrics

Rendering fabrics requires different approaches based on their type. The new Fabric master material in Twinmotion allows you to choose from two updated shading models to simulate a broad range of textiles—such as cotton, linen, silk, wool, polyester, and velvet—with enhanced fidelity. Additionally, we’ve added ten new fabric types to the Twinmotion library to help you get started.

New scattering tools

Twinmotion’s updated scattering tools enhance your ability to populate specific paths or areas within your scene. Whether using the Spacing tool for open paths or the Area tool for enclosed spaces, you can now easily apply chosen assets with varying degrees of randomness.
Adjust density, randomness, and other parameters with ease to achieve natural or precisely controlled distributions.

Filmback options

Filmback options

Filmmakers can now match the camera view in Twinmotion to the sensor or film frame dimensions of common real-world cameras, including custom height and width values. This ensures that the shots framed in Twinmotion are realistic and achievable in actual shoots, which is crucial for accurate previsualization.

Enhancements for Lumen

Enhancements for Lumen and the Path Tracer

This release brings performance improvements to hardware ray tracing for both Lumen and the Path Tracer. Lumen benefits from global performance optimizations, increased light support, and higher fidelity with translucent meshes, including reflections and refractions. The Path Tracer also sees optimizations in shader compilation and performance enhancements for decals and volumetric fog.

New bloom controls

New bloom controls

New bloom controls have been introduced to replicate the bloom effect seen in real-world cameras. You can now adjust the intensity of bloom and create starburst effects using a selection of 12 different pattern textures.

Ambient occlusion texture input

Ambient occlusion texture input

Ambient occlusion (AO) textures can now be added to the standard material in Twinmotion. AO textures are automatically imported by default from Quixel, Sketchfab, and glTF assets, enhancing shadowed areas of models and providing added contrast in both Standard and Lumen rendering modes.

Deterministic animation

Deterministic animation

A new ‘Random seed’ feature allows you to create consistent animation sequences for characters, vehicles, and other animated elements. By adjusting the random seed, you can ensure that exported media plays the same animations each time, or vary the results as needed.

Parenting Animators

Parenting Animators

The new capability to parent Animators (such as Rotators and Translators) within the Scene graph enables the creation of more complex animations. This allows for sophisticated effects, like a helicopter with a spinning rotor or an animated solar system.

Experience Lumen in Twinmotion 2023.2 Preview 1

With the release of Twinmotion 2023.2 Preview 1, the revolutionary Lumen technology from Unreal Engine 5 is now available for the first time. Lumen’s dynamic global illumination and reflections system delivers exceptional realism by allowing indirect lighting to adjust instantly to changes in direct lighting or geometry—whether you're modifying the sun's position or opening an exterior door.
This state-of-the-art lighting solution lets you produce breathtaking stills and videos with near path-traced quality, but in a fraction of the time. Enhance your real-time visualization experience with Lumen’s advanced capabilities, now seamlessly integrated into Twinmotion.
